First Review Meeting

HANDLE’s first Review meeting took place in Paris, in May. The Project Officer in charge of the project at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Information Society and Media (DGINFSO), along with three independent experts assessed the progress made during the first year of the project. They took this opportunity to ask questions to the representatives of the nine institutions that form the HANDLE consortium.

Grasp Planning and Task Learning Imitation

Within the IROS 2010 partners involved in the HANDLE project and colleagues from different institutions are organising the workshop “Grasp Planning and Task Learning by Imitation”. The aim of the workshop is to present recent research work integrating learning and manipulation and to provide a forum for closer communication of researchers from closer disciplines interested robotic in manipulation, task learning and the replication of human grasping skills in robotic systems.

The deadline for sending contributions is July 1st.
For submission consult the workshop site

HANDLE GRASP and DEXTMART Common Workshop

Within the RSS 2010 conference the Projects GRASP, DEXMART and HANDLE are organising the Workshop "Representations for object grasping and manipulation in single and dual arm tasks". The workshop is dedicated to representations of sensory data used for object grasping and manipulation. The goal of the workshop is to bring together researchers from computer vision, machine learning and control to discuss the future avenues in the area of sensory based object grasping and manipulation. Of special interest are systems that are based on multiple sensory input and have been demonstrated to perform in natural settings with different types of objects. We foresee the need and interest from the several ongoing integrated projects to participate in the workshop.

First Demonstrator Installed

Despite the bad weather conditions on Monday the 11th of January  2010, the first version of the arm+hand demonstration platform has been delivered and installed in the coordinators site in Paris. The system was assembled quickly and worked at the first go.

Congratulations to the Shadow Team and to the rest of the HANDLE partners.

Free Access Publications

On the 25th of November 2009 IEEE agreed to grant a permission to the partners of the handle project to post the first paper free access on the project site. This was to respond to a requirement from the EU commission asking the partners of the FP7 Projects to make their best effort to ensure that electronic copies of the generated publications become freely available to anyone.
